The Departed

Their hearts once beat and weaved

of human joy and wonderment

yet washed in faded waters of mirth

The years were kind the nights were

long and the dawn came late no sunsets

left them lost the colors were earthly tones

before they slept

They had seen much and heard

sweet music loved by many

and shown love back in abundance

Long walks they took under

the moonlight holding hands with

life and yearnings of the heart

They felt the pleasures of wonder

before their very eyes laden now with

sorrow as their time approached

in shades of grey

The ocean winds blew across

their harbor lost within their souls

of changing winds to laughter’s glow

The waves capped and mist

sprayed in their face of fear yet

not alone for mermaids carried them

to safety before their fall for now they

danced their last so cheerfully

not afraid of death

Death is but a pebble causing

a ripple of unbroken glory while

it gathers a radiance all its own as

the night falls upon a shooting star

of spirits set free to be

the colors of the universe
